Beluga College

Reaching the German university-entrance diploma on individual ways – the Beluga College follows an unusual approach: Instead of passive ex-cathedra teaching students experience intensive personal mentoring here. Therefore, the motto is “We're teaching students – not subjects!”

Beluga Shipping participates in the further development or Bremen’s school system by founding a vocational secondary school with a new concept. Beside the general baccalaureate the students gain professional and branch-related competences. Instead of the usual fragmented curriculum and strictly limited subjects there are individual learning plans, portfolios and agendas, organised in work packages and trimesters. The students pass the college in their own learning pace.

The education in the Beluga College takes place bilingually in English and German. In two different maritime profiles – commercial and technical/scientific – the students are prepared for their exams. A top priority beside the curriculum is to educate them as independent and responsibly acting characters.

The students themselves decide a lot. Hence, teachers at the Beluga College see themselves rather as coaches and guide their students within an individual learning process.

The Beluga College welcomed the first students in August 2009. More information you can find here.
