University cooperations / International
course of study "Shipping & Chartering"

Project and heavy-lift cargo shipping is a highly specialised business that poses great challenges for everyone involved. To create opportunities for recruiting qualified employees, Beluga Shipping GmbH finances endowment professor’s chairs, cooperates with universities and has drafted a new course of study.

In the field of ship operation technology Beluga Shipping works together with the University of Applied Sciences in Bremerhaven, which has one of the most modern ship engine room simulators and receives student places for doing practical semesters from the Beluga Sea Academy. In the nautical field Beluga Shipping and the University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg/Ostfriesland/Wilhelmshaven (Department of Maritime Studies) are closely linked partners who, among other things, are jointly involved in the Maritime Campus in Elsfleth. In the Department of Maritime Studies Beluga Shipping finances two endowment professor’s chairs and offers student places for completing practical semesters.

Students at the Bremen University of Applied Sciences, at which Beluga Shipping finances two additional endowment professor’s chairs, also sail as cadets on Beluga’s multipurpose heavy-lift project carriers. Moreover, Beluga Shipping and the Bremen University of Applied Sciences jointly designed and launched the still unique international “Shipping & Chartering” Bachelor’s programme in 2006. This full-time course of study, including a stay abroad, teaches maritime economics, nautical science / technology, maritime management and various soft skills and provides qualifications for executive functions at shipping companies as well as in the trade, transportation and insurance sectors.
